Tethering method; It is a surgical treatment method used in adolescent scoliosis, popularly known as the "rope method". It has been preferred in many cases in recent years.
Adolescent scoliosis; In the process that starts 2-3 years before puberty and continues until 2 years after puberty; In other words, it occurs during the elongation process of the spine. It is a spinal deformity whose cause is not clearly known.
Especially in curvatures that begin in early adolescence, increases and rapid progressions can be observed in direct proportion to the lengthening of the trunk. Especially when we look at our children, we can see that their height suddenly increases and these curvatures progress in a period of approximately 8-10 months.
With the rope method (tethering method); For advanced curvatures, a treatment that allows the spine to lengthen and preserves its flexibility is applied.
IN WHICH DISORDERS CAN THE ROPE METHOD BE APPLIED?
The rope method (tethering method). ), is not a method that can be applied in every situation and is not a panacea.
In order to apply the rope method; There should be a curvature of approximately 40 degrees in the back area. The rope method cannot be applied to curvatures in the waist area.
It is more appropriate to apply it to people who have just entered puberty and whose growth hormone and nuclei are still in their infancy. It is not applied in the late period after puberty and there is no chance of correcting the curvature.
HOW IS THE ROPE METHOD APPLIED?
Screws are sent from the rib cage to the peak of the curvature in the back area and a rope is applied. With this method, growth in the relevant area is slowed down. After the curvature in the spine is corrected, balance is achieved because the growth of the curvature is slowed down.
