What is Psychotherapy? Trends in Psychotherapy and Online Psychotherapy

What is psychotherapy, trends in psychotherapy and online psychotherapy

Although its meaning is "psychological or spiritual treatment", it is practically used as "talking therapy" both among the public and among experts. After the 1950s, it was pushed into the background due to the influence of the American Psychiatric Association and the pharmaceutical industry, and only medication-focused treatment without psychotherapy came to the fore, especially among psychiatrists. However, in recent years, the disappointment caused by the effectiveness and side effects of drugs has brought psychotherapies back to the agenda. In addition to the drugs being ineffective; It can also reduce a person's search for meaning in life or his chances of development (of course, I exclude diagnoses and situations where using medication is beneficial). Due to the gap created by being off the agenda for a long time, psychotherapy is widely used by people who are not standardized and competent, especially in our country. It continues to be a subject open to abuse due to reasons such as being difficult to train and quite expensive.

There are sub-schools and classes such as psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioral, gestalt, existential, individual group, marriage and sexual psychotherapies.

Panic attacks, social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, obsessions and vital blockages (financial, professional, communication) problems respond very well to psychotherapy. Change begins in a few sessions and is continued according to the person's unique situation. Since the person becomes aware, the improvement is generally permanent, unlike medication. Sexual therapies are therapies that have very promising results. I would like to emphasize that the increase in applications we have received for marriage therapies in recent months is remarkable.

Psychotherapy has its share of the rapid changes experienced in the world. People are now turning to experience-based therapy techniques that work more quickly. In parallel with these developments, "online psychotherapies" are becoming quite widespread. Online sessions are useful for those who are hesitant to receive psychotherapy despite the limitations in body language and space use, or who do not have this opportunity due to distance.
