What is Somatization?

In short, although there is no medical problem in the body for somatization,
despite all the tests and examinations being clear, there are still certain symptoms in our body (pain, burning, contraction, itching, etc.). We call these symptoms somatic symptoms.

While the person goes from doctor to doctor looking for the cause of their pain, on the one hand, he tries to cope with the anxiety brought by this uncertainty
, on the other hand, the fatal
results of the symptoms he writes into the search engine may encounter and experience fear. On top of all this, the doctor's psychological discourse of the cause of the pain
reveals the need to tell whether he is angering the person or not, and that he really feels the pain
. At this point, I have to say that yes, the pain is real. It's just
that the cause of these pains may not be a physiological condition, but a psychological condition.

Studies show that somatic symptoms are generally caused by stress. Not coping
with stress, not solving it, ignoring it creates a psychological distress in the person, and this
distress is expressed through the body. The lack of expression of emotions, their suppression, anxiety
state, the traumatic past reveals stress in the person as well as the somatic symptoms
. In another study, it was concluded that as the psychological stress of the participants increased
their physical symptoms also increased. In addition, somatic symptoms can accompany anxiety
and depression.

As we mentioned at the beginning, non-medical headaches, back and muscle pains,
cramps, stomach and intestinal problems, heart palpitations, hoarseness, temporary blindness, chest
pain, dizziness, chronic fatigue, reluctance and pain in sexual intercourse, menstrual pain and skin problems can be given as examples. This list can be long, there may be more than one symptom. After the doctor
control, it may be recommended to get psychological support
by making sure that it is not due to a medical reason.
