It is a vein (venous system) disease that manifests itself in the genital area as varicose veins. Patients may experience discomfort while walking, feeling pressure and swelling in the vulvar area, pain, itching, a palpable mass due to enlargement of the veins, and pain during sexual intercourse. Self-bleeding of these enlarged varicose veins may be observed.
It develops due to leakage in the veins occurring in the branches of the internal iliac vein, great saphenous vein, pelvic and ovarian venous system. Vulvar (genital) varicose veins are a type of venous insufficiency. Although it can be seen in one in every ten women, it is observed more frequently in pregnant women.
Clinical, Pelvic ultrasonography, Venous Color Doppler USG of the legs, Venography, CT Angiography are the methods used in the diagnosis of vulvar genital varicose veins.
In the treatment, the ovarian vein is used. In case of detected insufficiency, coil embolization or sclerotherapeutic injection will eliminate the cause of the disease.
