Heroin is one of the addictive substances that affects the brain most rapidly and causes addiction to develop in a short time. Heroin is also known in street language as white powder, white cheese, on paper, junk, charlie, lime. When a heroin addict wants to quit using heroin, he or she experiences complaints such as unbearably severe nausea, aches, pains, cramps, sweating and weakness approximately 5-6 hours after the last use and is forced to use heroin again. In addition to being seriously addictive in the short term, heroin also causes fatal diseases by affecting many vital organs such as the brain, heart, lungs and liver.
Drugs that have been used in the treatment of heroin addiction have been tried to be developed for many years. There are drugs that have become available in our country in recent years. However, since addiction treatment is long-term (at least 6 months of drug treatment), as in other chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, etc.), patients cannot use their medications regularly and frequently start using substances again. With the naltrexone implants called "addiction chip", which have been used in our country in recent years, the non-compliance of patients with the treatment is eliminated and serious successes are achieved in the treatment of heroin addiction. They undergo detoxification treatment for 5 days, during which the heroin is removed from the body. Then, these addiction chips, which last for 2-3 months, are placed under the skin of the patient's lower abdomen through a 1-2 cm incision, and the patients' long-term treatment needs are met. The addiction chip, whose effect begins after a few hours, greatly reduces the person's desire for heroin and increases his compliance with the treatment and his belief that he can quit the drug. Due to the nature of the addiction disease, patients often abandoned oral drug treatments, but thanks to this developed chip, at least 3 months of protection is provided and we recommend continuing the chip treatment every 3 months for approximately 1 year. We observe that especially when one stays away from the substance for 1 year, the brain no longer searches for heroin as much as before.
It is removed from the body for approximately 4-5 days. After detoxing the substance, we place a 3-month addiction chip under the skin, especially for our patients who cannot continue oral drug treatment. From the hospitalization process, we first have detailed interviews with our patients and their families, and then the reasons that lead them to addiction, the reasons why we cannot get rid of addiction, the family history we have experienced. We evaluate social problems in detail. We conduct risk analysis and help people anticipate the risks that may lead them to use drugs and help them discover their ability to cope with stressor factors. We try to motivate patients to make life changes (new friendships, new hobbies, etc.) and help them get rid of a lifelong addiction.
Based on my own observations and observations abroad, the addiction chip reduces drug cravings in heroin addict patients from the first day. I can say that it provides long-term protection. With this treatment method, we achieve serious effects in the treatment of addicted patients. Our chances of getting rid of lifelong addiction are extremely high, especially in patients who do not apply addiction chip treatment and addiction therapy (individual, group therapies and family training) together.
