Children are not the only ones responsible for screen addiction, which has become one of the biggest problems today. The problem is not entirely with the development of technology and trying to keep up. Each tool has a user manual and it is written that we are not responsible for user errors. These user errors can be replaced by children's lack of attention. We can divide families into three groups based on their approaches to the use of devices such as phones, televisions and iPads;
1) Those who say that we actually find many useful educational games on television and phones, we watch cartoons, they teach us new things, so we watch them too.
2) The child cannot live without television or phone. He has gotten so used to it that if it is not even while eating, war breaks out and it does not stop.
3) Those who say, "We know it is very harmful, but no matter what we do, we cannot get rid of it."
Those in the first group, the benefits We did not have these in our time, we see families who take it easy, like our child learned to read, count and even a lot of information. Your child can learn to count while picking stones out of rice, or while giving pegs to his mother to hang the laundry. Moreover, his hands work and his gross and fine motor skills increase. He learns permanently, helps you, takes responsibility, develops self-confidence, communicates with the family, touches and discovers, and so on. So what happens otherwise?
The child constantly looks at the screen without moving, just like a frozen person. A cartoon character appears and tries to teach your child something, accompanied by sounds and visuals. The child then repeats what he saw in his mind. When you repeat it, he becomes happy, he is happy to learn, and the cycle continues in this way until he reaches adolescence, spends his youth and time in internet cafes, and isolates himself from his family and environment. Most families do not rebel. So what's actually going on?
The child is learning, but while he is learning, illuminated, flashing advertisements and stimuli come from the sides of the screen, including both sounds and images, and of course, there are also stimuli (sounds, images, toys, etc.) coming from outside the screen, from the house or the environment he is in. Here, lack of attention is starting to erode your door. If you present the whole life and life's information to your children through a box-like screen, the precautions you want Even if you take it, it does not prevent you from solving the problems in life, but rather from inviting other problems. Why shouldn't children learn about life by getting involved in life, not from a box?
Then, children start to become addicted to cartoons and screens, and the second group of families comes into play. The child is fitted with a silencer, accompanied by phones and television, so that he can perform each action. Let's open it and let him shut up, let's give him to do it... Because your child doesn't eat, cries, insists, doesn't keep quiet and doesn't stop. Tablets and phones are given to every child who says he is bored when we go to a guest, who cries on the bus, who says he won't eat when we go out for dinner, or who shouts. He plays for hours and you quietly make him do what you want. The child who picks up the phone every time he cries draws his own boundaries and sets the rules for you. Conflicts and power struggles begin, and tension at home increases. A structure that you cannot control and that disregards you begins to be nurtured, and your children become lonely. He/she lacks the ability to socialize and communicate. He talks less to people, plays less, cannot examine trees, cannot look at birds, and is dragged in pursuit of the unknown. The third group is the family type, those who say, "We know it is very harmful, but no matter what we do, we cannot get rid of it." Here it is very important to know what can be done, to learn and to eliminate user errors.
The child's sudden inability to watch cartoons as much as he/she is used to and the sudden reduction in hours causes severe crises at home. These crises can cause your child problems in many areas such as stubbornness, opposition, not eating, and insomnia. Therefore, it is necessary to start by determining the time period in which the child gets used to the screen. You need to know how much your child is exposed to this screen in your home, morning and evening. This determined hour should then be gradually reduced. For example, for a child who watches television for 3 hours, instead of reducing it to 1 hour all at once, you can start by reducing it by half an hour each week. But the most important point here is that when implementing this restriction, something should be put in its place. Transfer should be made to an environment that will keep the child busy and direct his/her attention. When these first steps are taken, many difficulties and crises may be encountered in the early days. This reaction of the child is a sign that the parents give the child It is related to the level of tolerance shown by the body. When you show determination and guidance correctly, you will see that your child will not resist forever.
