Sagging and stretch marks occur in the abdominal area after birth or as a result of excessive weight gain and loss. The skin loses its elasticity. In this case, the best solution is to remove this sagging skin along with the underlying fat tissue. Even if the weight gained through exercise and diet is lost, it is not always possible to lift the sagging skin. The person's genetic predisposition and skin structure are important in this. In order for overweight patients to lose as much weight as possible before surgery in order to get better results, this increases the success of the surgery. If female patients plan to have children, it is more appropriate to postpone the surgery until after birth. However, there is no obstacle for a woman who has had abdominoplasty to become pregnant.
BEFORE THE SURGERY
During the patient's examination, the skin tone and the amount of fat in the abdomen and waist area are checked. While sometimes just a tummy tuck is enough, in some cases it may be necessary to slim the waist by performing liposuction to the waist area along with the tummy tuck. The surgery is performed with general anesthesia. Therefore, blood tests are performed beforehand. If blood thinners such as aspirin are used, it is recommended to discontinue them and not to drink herbal teas before surgery (some herbal teas may increase bleeding). The incision site to be made during the surgery is marked. This situation is shared with the patient. Small changes can be made in the shape of the incision depending on the patient's clothing style.
SURGERY
FULL TUMMY tuck: The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made in the groin area, extending to both iliac wings (pelvis). The abdominal skin, together with the fatty tissue, is lifted up to the rib cage. The navel is released. Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed, the remaining abdominal skin is stretched, and a new belly button is created. Additionally, during this procedure, a constricting suture, called plication, is placed on the abdominal muscles. This suture both slims the waist and eliminates the swelling in the abdominal area of women. A drain is placed in the operating area. Drains are removed on the 2nd day. The surgery takes approximately 3 hours.
PARIAL Tummy Tuck: This procedure is not as comprehensive as a full tummy tuck. Only sagging skin in the groin area is treated. The belly button should not be touched; if necessary, the procedure can be supported with liposuction. The surgery takes 1 hour.
AFTER THE SURGERY
After the surgery, hospitalization for 1 or 2 nights is required. It is necessary to position yourself in bed for the first 3-4 days and to walk by bending slightly while walking. You can return to daily life in 1 week. A scar remains in the groin area extending to both hip bones. This scar gradually decreases over time and depending on the patient's wound healing.
