Supplementary Food Nutrition List

HELLO to all my breastfeeding or formula feeding mothers :) From now on, those comfortable days will turn into days where we will be little cooks and fight with our little baby. Remember, if you enter this battle, your baby will always be the winner. Our aim should be to win the war at the table, not on the field. I wish you all GOOD LUCK...

I recommend that you feed your baby ONLY BREAST'S MILK for the first 6 months. Continuing breastfeeding until the age of two will positively affect the physical and mental development of the baby. Complementary foods (additional food) should be started in the 6th month to increase your baby's energy and vitamin intake, improve his chewing and swallowing skills, and get him used to foods with different tastes and consistencies.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

1-Nutrition environment: Feeding should be done regularly, at the same time, in a quiet place and in a calm manner. There should be no other distracting factors in the environment, such as television. A baby who is sleepy at feeding time should not be forced to eat. The baby should be carefully monitored in terms of its needs. Eye contact should be established between mother and baby during feeding hours. Distracting the baby's attention, television, tablet etc. It should not be made to eat by making people play in front of it. This situation reduces the baby's interest in food and paves the way for nutritional disorders, especially obesity.

2. Feeding position: The baby should be fed in the high chair as soon as he can sit upright. Starting from the 9th month, the baby should be placed at the table with family members in a high chair and allowed to taste homemade foods. There is no need to prepare special food for babies after 12 months at the latest. The baby should never be left alone in the high chair.

3. Feeding amount: Since the baby is used to sucking, he pushes the food with his tongue during the first feedings. This should not be perceived as unwillingness. The child should not be force-fed. The mother chooses the quality of the food, the baby decides how much to eat. It should never be forced. The food that the baby rejects should be tried again after 1-2 weeks.

4. Feeding time / duration: The first supplementary food to be given is at lunch, when the baby is in a good mood. and should be given while hungry. It should be given in small amounts at first, and the amount should be increased gradually. Main and snack meals should be spaced well. The baby should not be fed for at least 2 hours before the main meal. Feeding time should be maximum 30 minutes. Foods that are not eaten during this period should be removed from the table.

5. Nutrition diversity: Giving the child the same foods all the time will cause him to get bored and have an unbalanced diet. Offer foods to your child in different tastes, textures, colors and varieties. The appearance of the plates should be attractive. The mother should taste the food before the baby and praise it. Being exposed to different tastes at an early age will have a positive impact on later life. It may be necessary to patiently taste a food 10 times, while the baby is hungry, to get used to the taste of a food.

6. Prohibitions: Until one year of age, honey is not given. It is not recommended to give ready-made food. Nuts (especially hazelnuts, walnuts, peanuts) can be given after the age of 3, as their pieces may escape into the respiratory tract. Powdered walnuts and hazelnuts can be added to breakfast, soup or fruit starting from the 7th month. ½ tea glass of cow's milk can be added to breakfast after the 9th month. The daily need for milk and dairy products for 1-2 year olds is 300 ml. Cow's milk can be given at most 500ml per day. I do not recommend giving broad beans or eggplants until the age of two.

SEQUENCE OF STARTING SUPPLEMENTARY FOODS:

In the transition to complementary feeding, the baby should be started with foods rich in iron and zinc, fruits should be added to the taste. It should be left until the end so that it does not slide into dessert.

1-Vegetable Puree (minced meat is added in the first week)

2-Yogurt

3- Breakfast

4- Fruit Puree (apple, peach, apricot, pear).

BETWEEN 6-9 MONTHS

The basic food is breast milk. . Supplementary food is given roughly 1/2 tea glass in 2-3 meals a day. In this process, called the transition phase, some babies take 1-2 teaspoons only to taste, while others can take up to 2-4 tablespoons. The amount should be determined according to the baby's clues, THE BABY SHOULD DECIDE THE AMOUNT. During this period, the main nutritional source is breast milk. It should not be forgotten that.

DURING 9-12 MONTHS

In addition to breast milk, 3-4 meals a day are given additional food. Roughly ½ -1 glass (100-200ml) can be given at each meal. The amount should be determined according to the baby's clues, and the baby should decide the amount. The baby should not be forced to eat too much.

BETWEEN 12-23 MONTHS: Three main meals and 1-2 snacks are given.

I want to give you a few easy recipes. But of course you are the artistic ones :)

VEGETABLE PUREE:

½ small carrot (25gr) / ½ small zucchini (50gr)

rice (1 teaspoon) (5gr)

olive oil (1 teaspoon) (5gr),

water (2 cups) (400ml)

New seasonal vegetables can be added to the puree every 3-4 days. In total, a maximum of 3-4 seasonal vegetables are added to the puree (alternately).

The puree is not put through a rondo or blender, but is passed through a wire strainer or crushed with a fork. Liver can be added every seven to ten days.

YOGURT :

It is fermented at home from daily pasteurized milk. Add 1-2 tablespoons of diluted yoghurt to a liter of milk after it has cooled and mix. Leave this mixture at room temperature for 4 hours without moving it, then put it in the refrigerator. Re-prepare every few days. Depending on the season, crushed fruit can be added to yoghurt.

Towards the seventh month. You start with egg yolk. Start with 1 teaspoon of hard-boiled egg yolk. It increases and the whole yolk is given after a week. The white of the egg is given after one year of age. It takes at most 10-12 minutes for the egg to fully cook. Further cooking reduces the nutritional value.

MORNING BREAKFAST :

Starts from the seventh month. First, for the first few days, only the yolk of a hard-boiled egg is given in increasing amounts, then a full breakfast is started.

-Expressed breast milk is used for breakfast. If breast milk is not available, bottle formula prepared with 2 scoops of formula in 60ml of water can be used. Starting from the ninth month, ½ tea glass of cow's milk can be used.

The fruit itself should be given rather than fruit juice. If fruit juice is to be given, a maximum of 120ml per day can be given.

Before peeling the fruit, it should be washed thoroughly and soaked in vinegar water for a while. It should be waited and peeled after rinsing well in running water. Fruits should be crushed with a fork and given to the baby. If desired, it can be added to yoghurt.

Finger foods: soft foods such as boiled carrot slices, bread stuffing, meatballs, pasta.
