Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-IV (WISC-IV) is an intelligence test used to measure the mental skills of children between the ages of 6 years 0 months and 16 years 11 months. WISC-IV is a part of the WISC-R Intelligence Test. It is the latest updated version adapted to today's conditions. It is the most comprehensive, valid and up-to-date intelligence test in the world and in our country. The test is a unique scale with important innovations and provides more information about the child. In addition to the intelligence level, it also provides clues about the child's strong and weak mental skills. The results provide important information for treatment planning, clinical and neuropsychological evaluation. On the one hand, it enables the identification of gifted children, and on the other hand, it ensures the preparation of appropriate support programs for children with weak mental skills that need to be developed.
*WISC-IV includes verbal comprehension, perceptual reasoning, working memory and processing speed. It consists of subtests belonging to 4 mental skill clusters.
*There are a total of 15 subtests in WISC-IV, 10 basic and 5 reserve. In cases where it is not appropriate to apply the basic subtests for various reasons, spare subtests are used.
*Estimated application time varies between 90 and 120 minutes depending on the child's working speed.

*Although it is preferred to complete the application in a single session, a short break can be given depending on the child's needs and performance in the process.

*Who can apply WISC-IV?
WISC-4 Intelligence Test is only available with the WISC-4 Application Certificate issued by the Turkish Psychologists Association. It can be administered by expert psychologists.
*Feedback is given to the family after the test administration. In this feedback meeting, families discuss the child's situation among peers and He/she is given comprehensive information about his/her own strengths and skills that are open to development.
*Test results and the specialist's clinical observations are combined with the information received from the family, and if necessary, recommendations are made for the child's special educational, academic and/or emotional support needs.
*If the test is requested by a doctor, therapist or public institution, the test result is delivered to the specialist or institution with the family's knowledge and approval. directions are determined. While helping to discover the child's strengths and determine a program for this; By identifying the child's weaknesses, it will enable the determination of a program that supports the child's development in the area where he/she is inadequate, improving the existing weaknesses and solving the problem.
What Should Families Pay Attention to Before the Test?
- Care should be taken to ensure that the child is not sick or tired before coming to the test.

-The child should be well-rested and have a normal day in terms of motivation when coming to the test. It is recommended to choose comfortable clothes.
-It is recommended to stay away from statements and actions that will cause anxiety to the child. If the child knows that this is an intelligence test, he may experience anxiety and not be able to show his real performance. Words such as "test, intelligence test, exam" should not be used regarding the application to the child; It should be said that a study will be done instead. Anxiety-increasing words such as “Do well, do carefully, listen carefully” should not be made.

> Why should WISC-IV be done instead of WISC-R?
WISC-4 is the updated version of WISC-R r. New skill sets have been added to WISC-4, thus the number of tests has been increased. Taking the WISC-4 intelligence test will provide families with a more comprehensive, up-to-date and better idea about their children's cognitive skills. Since WISC-R norms are not up-to-date, it is no longer healthy and ethical to evaluate children with this test. Families; You should ask whether the psychologist who will perform the test is a therapist trained by the Turkish Psychologists Association, and should not have the old version of the test performed when there is a current version.
