The Allegory of the Cave in Daily Life (Our Potential to See the Truth)

2400 years ago, Plato, one of the famous thinkers of history, said that life was like being chained in a cave and being forced to watch the shadows reflected on a stone wall. This is the subject that Plato talks about in the allegory of the cave in the 7th book of his book The State, in which he revives the dream of an ideal society by examining the concepts of justice, beauty and reality.

The people who were captive in the cave heard the sounds outside and saw their shadows and defined them according to themselves.

One day, one of them was released. The person who was released slowly tried to adapt to the outside world and redefined what he saw as different from the shadows and dimensions he used to give meaning to. He saw the true extent of the reflections. And he returned to other people to tell this.

But other people thought he was stupid and blind.

Thinking that the truth was shadows and reflections, they were content with what they only knew. They felt great anger and hatred towards the person coming from outside and never accepted what they said.

Sometimes, we experience exactly this situation. This is why we have selfishness, jealousy, grudge and hatred.

We always struggle to stay in that cave where we know.

Some people, some books, some places come into our lives, like the person who returns. They tell us: look, be careful about this, be careful about this person, or these may be important in your life.

However, we also hold grudges and even feel hostility towards them. However, who knows, maybe these people or those we encounter are more knowledgeable than us. Maybe they see the truth, but we feel grudge and hatred for every moment we cannot see it.

No matter how difficult it is to smooth this out and work on it, this is an issue that needs to be done and thought about.

We may not have the courage to go out of the cave. However, we must respect those who come out and at some point we must listen to what is said to us.

We must not forget that ignorance does not bring happiness, ignorance brings ignorance.

And in this way, we harm ourselves, our society and our family. . And without even realizing it.
