Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating; It is a condition in which the whole body or certain parts of the body sweat more than normal temperature regulation requires. It can put a person in a difficult situation in social environments, as well as make it difficult for him to do his job. While it may be idiopathic (cause unknown), it may occur due to some metabolic diseases, febrile illnesses or drug use. There are three main forms: emotionally triggered hyperhidrosis (especially affecting the palms, soles and armpit areas), localized hyperhidrosis and widespread hyperhidrosis.

According to a study conducted in America, its prevalence in the population is 1-1.6%. About 60% of them are women. Its incidence in adolescence and young adulthood is around 0.6-1%. Foot and palm sweating is 20 times more common in Japanese than in all races.

Treatment: Hyperhidrosis treatment can be done with surgical intervention or medication. As surgical treatment, sympathectomy, radiofrequency ablation, microneedle radiofrequency, surgical total excision and subcutaneous liposuction can be applied.

There are also effective agents such as aluminum chloride, glycopyrrolate, glycopyrronium tosylate.

Botox (botulinum toxin) is also a very effective treatment method for palm and armpit sweating. It reduces sweating for 4-12 months. 100 Units of Botox are applied to the entire area with 2-unit point injections.

Another treatment method, iontophoresis, has been applied since 1952. A 15-20 mA current passed through tap water is applied to the palms and soles of the feet for 30 minutes. Sweating can be reduced more effectively by adding anticholinergic drugs to the water.

Devices that use microwaves have recently been developed to prevent underarm sweating.

If you have a complaint of excessive sweating, consult your doctor to investigate the cause and determine the cause. Apply the most effective treatment under the supervision of a doctor.
