What is Hallux Valgus (Big Toe Deformity)?
Among foot deformities, the most common problem after flat feet is the deformity of the big toe. In its mild forms, it does not cause any problems other than appearance problems. However, in its advanced forms, it causes serious complaints such as pain and difficulty wearing shoes. It can prevent walking and show an ugly foot structure.
This deformity of the big toe, medically called Hallux Valgus deformity, is generally; It occurs due to reasons such as wearing tight-toed shoes for a long time, wearing inappropriate shoes, genetic reasons and foot structure.
Sometimes it begins in adolescence, adolescence. It is usually seen between the ages of 25-40 and frequently in women. This deformity can be tolerated if it does not cause pain or interfere with wearing shoes. However, if tight and narrow-toed shoes continue to be worn, painful swelling and increased deformity often occur. Wide forefoot (scalloped foot structure) and flat feet have an increasing effect on this deformity.
In mild deformities; It is possible to have pain-free feet by following shoe rules, toe rollers and protective pads. However, it is not possible to correct the deformity without surgery. Those with advanced deformities, those with pain, those who have difficulty in long walks, and those who are disturbed by shoe-foot deformities should be treated with surgery.
If there is no pain, difficulty in wearing shoes and If there is no difficulty in walking, especially in mild deformities, that is, if they are not symptomatic, we do not recommend surgery.
