Blood coming from the anus

It is a rare condition encountered during pooping in childhood. It may happen during or after pooping. It appears as a symptom for many diseases. The source of bleeding must be determined. It usually consists of conditions that are not difficult to treat.

It is the most common cause of bleeding during defecation in childhood. Although it is seen at all ages, it occurs more frequently during the transition from infancy to childhood. The poop of the child who starts to be fed with solid foods gradually becomes solid. Some children poop large and hard. This causes a crack around the anus. If it is not noticed in time and appropriate treatment is not given, children enter a vicious circle. As they delay pooping to avoid pain, their poop becomes harder and the next time they poop, the crack deepens and causes more pain. The most important thing in the treatment is to prevent children from entering this vicious circle.

The sight of blood in the form of streaks on the poop and the family's statements that they feel a lot of pain while pooping and do not want to do it are typical. Blood is almost always accompanied by hard poop. The examination is painful and the crack is usually visible. Long-term unhealed cracks often have a skin fold at one end. Sometimes a doctor is consulted because of this fold.

For treatment, the constipation problem must first be solved. Poop should be softened and made more frequently. The healing of the crack should be accelerated with warm sitz baths and painkillers and creams that contribute to wound healing. However, it should not be forgotten that the incident can easily recur, and the family should be warned about feeding and pooping habits. While recovery is achieved in many children, surgical treatment is rarely required.

Rectal polyp is located in the large intestine. It is a kind of formation disorder that is attached to a place with or without a stem at its end. It is one of the most common causes of bleeding in childhood. The size of rectal polyps seen between the ages of 5-15 can reach 2 cm. Although there is only one polyp in half of the cases, the number can reach up to 10. Similar formations It can also be found in the upper parts of the intestine. Almost all of them are benign. Pathological examination should be performed.

The first symptom is usually blood in the stool, and the polyp itself may be seen sticking out of the anus. Bleeding may also occur in drops after defecation. There may also be complaints such as crampy abdominal pain and mild diarrhea. Diagnosis is usually made by examination. In doubtful cases, a medicated colon film or endoscopic examination should be performed.
