The hymen is a thin tissue fold located at the entrance to the vagina in women and has a thickness of 2 - 3 mm. This tissue is located approximately 2 – 3 cm from the entrance of the vagina. This membrane, on which thin-structured capillaries are located, can take various shapes. It is usually half-moon shaped. Thanks to the veins on it, it ruptures during the first intercourse and bleeding occurs as a result.
How is the Hymen Stitched?
For the hymen stitch, a piece of the vaginal walls is taken and a thin tissue that is possible to bleed is created. Thanks to this tissue, although the original hymen cannot be obtained, a structure that is possible to bleed inside during intercourse is obtained.
How is hymen surgery performed?
Hymenoplasty surgery is performed in 2 different ways. These are temporary hymen surgery and permanent hymen surgery.
Temporary hymen repair surgery: The hymen repaired with this method should be performed very shortly before marriage (between 1 and 7 days) as it will be deformed within a few days. It can be performed with local or general anesthesia.
Permanent hymen suture surgery (flap method): This surgery is a longer operation than temporary hymen surgery. Tissue is removed from the vaginal walls and a hymen-like tissue is created. Since the permanence of this method's operations is long-lasting, it can be performed years before marriage. During this process, your doctor will give you advice regarding the control examination and dressing. For 1 week after the operation, sports should not be done, heavy items should not be carried and swimming in the pool or the sea should not be done. During this process, care should be taken not to open the legs too much. At the end of the first week, the patient is examined by the doctor and the care and cleaning recommendations are given to the patient by the doctor.
