Self-Realization: Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

The need is expressed as a necessity that continues to exist at every point where the individual tries to ensure his life. While meeting the needs of the human continues with a certain order, each step proceeds supporting each other so that the human can succeed in holding on to life as he can complete his needs. We see with Maslow that the hierarchical order includes the needs, we are talking about a pyramid where each step supports the next and the progress of the levels depends on the steps. Maslow's hierarchy pyramid consists of five steps, each step continues as a complement to the next one. Hierarchy steps, lack of experience in the previous level, etc. In such cases, it prevents the individual from taking the next step (Şeker, 2014). In this context, we can say that the individual must have completed the steps and reached the competence in order to reach the potential to realize and realize himself. If the individual can define himself and reach the last step, he can be successful in the motivation process, because the person knows how to act in line with his wishes and can say that he has the potential to realize himself by being aware of this. When we look at the humanist psychology, which is based on the discourse that the individual is the main thing, we see the individual as an understanding that accepts the individual as valuable and good. Maslow was a humanist psychologist, and the pyramid of needs includes human needs both physiologically and sociologically because, according to humanism, the basic motive of man comes from the need for self-actualization. Humanistic thought believes that the person's achievement of self-actualization is related to his interests and abilities (Tekke, 2019). Based on this, the awareness of the individual on himself, the potential for self-realization, and the ability to meet the concept of self-transcendence after this step may be due to conscious self-knowledge. According to Maslow, one must be fully aware of his identity in order to reach the definition of being fully human (Tekke, 2019). The fact that the individual compares and evaluates himself with his internal standards can be the best indicator of the development of the level of awareness, the person should enable self-criticism and evaluation on himself, and based on this, self-realization adventure. can complete it. Motivation can be seen as a process that enables the individual to exhibit behaviors on their own will. Completing desires and wishes and knowing them comes from the step of self-realization, that is, Maslow's hierarchy continues from the completion of one's self step by step, this pyramid, which includes physiological needs as well as psychological needs, on the completion of each of the individual's needs in connection with each other. In summary, after the person reaches his vital needs, he satisfies his needs for security and love by establishing bonds with the other, then the person focuses on himself and after creating a level of awareness, he reaches the end of the pyramid with the step of self-actualization. Based on this, we can say that motivation becomes an influence process that becomes normal after this completion process.
