Tonsillitis is one of the most common infections during childhood and adolescence. If inflammation occurs 4 to 5 times a year for two consecutive years, it may be necessary to remove the tonsils. Tonsil removal is never a simple surgery. Severe bleeding can be life-threatening. Especially
in adults, the pain is severe and recovery is late. The surgery must be performed in centers with sufficient technical infrastructure and intensive
care.
In the classical method of tonsillectomy, the tonsil is separated from the surrounding tissues with a dissector. Separation of tissue
may create an irregular wound surface, healing occurs spontaneously over time. During this period, severe
pain occurs. During surgery, the vessels in the bleeding part are tied with special suture materials in the form of a sailor's knot or burned with cautery. Intervention with cautery causes late bleeding and pain during healing. In addition, healing is negatively affected and delayed.
Tonsilectomy is one of the ENT surgeries that has become easier with the development of modern medicine. Thanks to the thermal welding device developed for tonsillectomy, that is, tonsil surgery, which has become a nightmare for families, tonsils can be removed painlessly and without bleeding. With this
technique, the decomposition of tissues and the boiling of the wound surfaces with heat occur simultaneously. There is very little pain and the risk of bleeding is very low. Studies have shown that biological wound healing, which takes approximately four weeks in classical surgery
, takes one week in the Thermal Welding method. Thus, complaints such as sore throat and difficulty in swallowing are less.
In the Thermal Welding method, instead of electric current. heat energy is used. Heat flow is only at the ends of the device that holds the
tissue. For this reason, heat damage that may occur in the surrounding tissue is minimal. The pain felt during the recovery period after the use of cautery
(electric current) is much less
with thermal welding. The most important advantage of this technique is that it provides a bleeding-free environment and the surgery is performed with a single instrument. Thus, the surgery time is also shortened. The patient who is discharged from the hospital on the same day returns to daily social
activities more quickly.
