This is actually a sentence you hear from many people from time to time: I don't know the reason, everything is going well in my life, but I am very unhappy. In order not to immediately label this negative mood we are experiencing as "depression", let's first go deeper.
The situation we call depression is not a mood state or a temporary sadness, but a serious psychiatric disorder. For at least two weeks, the person does not only experience low mood, unhappiness or malaise; In addition, a life begins in which life energy is lost, concentration difficulties are experienced, no longer enjoys activities that one used to enjoy, weight is lost/gained, sleep and appetite patterns change, or thoughts of death intensify from time to time. These symptoms seriously affect both the social and personal life of the person. In order to cope, psychotherapy with a specialist or psychiatric medication + psychotherapy is recommended in periods of more serious and severe major depression.
In processes called dysthymic disorder or chronic depression, the person's daily life is not affected. In order to diagnose less severe dysthymia, the person must have had it for at least 2 years or more.
In addition, sentences such as "I'm a little out of sorts these days" "I can't do anything" "I'm very unhappy lately" If it doesn't match the items mentioned above, don't worry, you are not depressed. When you look at your daily life flow from the time you felt unhappy, you will definitely see that your stress factors (work intensity, financial difficulties, exams, unrest at home, fights, arguments, etc.) have increased and you have not been successful in coping skills. You can increase your coping skills by getting support from an expert for such situations of sadness and distress. I wish you pleasant days.
