Attending Seizures in Children
Attending seizures, which we can briefly summarize as holding one's breath while crying, can be mistaken for an epileptic seizure.
Do convulsions or tremors occur during a participating seizure? ?
Yes. 30-40 sec. It may happen if you hold your breath for longer than 10 minutes, but this does not mean epilepsy. Participation seizures, popularly known as breath-holding seizures, are an age-limited event and there is a 25% probability that there is a family history of participation seizures.
It is seen in 4-5% of children under the age of 5.
Although seizure seizures are often seen in the first 2 years of age, they can also occur before 6 months. It disappears spontaneously after the age of 4, or at the latest after the age of 6, when the nervous system matures.
The pressure in the rib cage of the child who holds his breath while crying increases, and this slows down the heartbeat. As a result, it causes a decrease in brain blood circulation. If there is anemia, the frequency of seizure seizures increases.
There is definitely a trigger for seizure seizures. Such as anger, frustration, hurt, fear, excitement, tickling, anger, insistence.
There are two types of seizure seizures: bruising and fading. Sometimes both can be seen in the same child.
It is important that it does not start without a triggering factor and that it does not occur during sleep when distinguishing it from epilepsy.
It does not cause brain damage.
There is no increase in the frequency of epilepsy, but fainting occurs. It may cause an increase in frequency (5-20%).
We must remain calm and distract the child during the seizure. It is wrong to pour water on a child's face or slap him. If a baby is having a seizure seizure, it should be turned on its side and vomiting should be prevented from flowing into its lungs.
What is Reflex Epilepsy?
Startle Epilepsy
Startle seizures occur with unexpected sudden stimuli. It is a rare reflex epilepsy. Non-reflexive seizures may also accompany startle seizures. It is seen in children with neurological problems who have problems with brain oxygenation at birth and have abnormal brain MRI findings. Infancy occurs during childhood or adolescence. Seizures are triggered by reasons such as sudden noise, phone ringing, tapping on the shoulder, tripping over the edge of the carpet.
Cough, dropping a teaspoon, or even someone starting to talk in a normal voice in a quiet environment can be triggering factors. It is very important that the stimulus is sudden. Even if the stimulus sound or noise is very loud, it does not trigger a seizure if it is not sudden.
Seizures are common.
Seizure frequency decreases with age
Sudden movements and contractions in the head, trunk and arms and legs are observed after stimulation
Convulsions It is unilateral or bilateral
Abnormalities are detected in the brain electrode taken during startle
Starter epilepsy can be confused with movement-induced epilepsies
Movement-induced epilepsies are diagnosed suddenly after a period of rest. It is another type of reflex epilepsy that occurs with movement.
