Psychoanalysis is an art that deals not only with human mental disorders, but also with the meaning of human emotions, thoughts and behaviors. When we look at human history, there is no discovery or invention that is not needed. Every object discovered or invented by man serves to satisfy a need. Before language was developed to express emotions and thoughts, art was discovered to express emotions and thoughts. Art continues to exist in human life without losing its importance even after the "Language" that people need to convey their feelings and thoughts. Art has been a tool used to express situations that are difficult to convey verbally or behaviorally from the first moment until today. Art has never been an end, it has always been a means to meet human needs. Sometimes he conveyed people's emotions through musical expression, sometimes through painting, sometimes through writing...
The concept of "libido", introduced into the terminology by Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, is the only reason for artists' motivation to make art. The concept of libido, which directs human actions, also provides satisfaction in art. Most of the time, much more is satisfied unconsciously than what is explained through the work of art.
It is possible to address many concepts that are discussed individually for society as well. Emotions and thoughts that are individually needed, desired, and seek satisfaction are also valid for society. In addition to individually written works, there are also written works whose author is known or whose author is not known, but which have been adopted by a society and are loaded with common values. Such written works are important in order to understand the psychology of society. Anecdotes, characters and myths, which are the main ones in these writings, reflect the desires of society seeking satisfaction, just like individuals.
Psychoanalysis and Santa Claus
The story of Santa Claus is known to almost everyone. It emerged as a myth belonging to the country of Finland. The story of Santa Claus, originating from Northern Europe, has increased in recognition and acceptance as a character accepted all over the world. The fact that the Santa Claus story is adopted by everyone is in line with the common desires of all people, while other myths remain specific to societies. There must be satisfaction first. It is possible to come across psychoanalytical tropes in the story of Santa Claus, known as a children's story.
Santa Claus is an uncle whom children love very much and brings them gifts. However, most of the time, while children are asleep, they enter the house through the chimney and leave gifts under the pine tree prepared for the New Year. In this part of the story, a man enters through the chimney while the child is asleep and leaves a gift under the tree. From a psychoanalytical point of view, the chimney can be defined as the vaginal tract. Soil and trees have been associated with women for many years due to their productivity. The formation of patterns in the shape of mother earth continues due to this feature of the soil. The gift left in the mother's womb by entering through the vagina is probably an unconscious herald of a child. Here, two events that are worrying for the individual are portrayed. Anxiety arising from the unity of father and mother, and anxiety caused by having a sibling. It has evolved into an exciting and happy event by reversing the anxieties that people suppress. Probably the reason why all humanity embraces the Santa Claus story is that it brings to life universal concerns.
