What are the post-operative care instructions?

After surgery, you should rest in bed with your head positioned higher than your chest to reduce bleeding and swelling. Ice or cold packs should be applied to your nose for 12 hours after surgery.

Your nose may be blocked due to swelling or splints placed inside your nose during surgery.

Inner dressings remain in place for two to four days after surgery. . An external splint is applied to your nose for protection and support. It is usually removed after a week.

Slight bleeding, mucus and drainage of old blood (clot) may occur a few days after surgery or after dressing is removed.

You may have absorbable stitches, which will dissolve and remove means they are not needed. If the stitches are not absorbable, you should see your doctor again one week after surgery to remove the stitches.

Additionally;

Nose edema takes longer to resolve than facial edema. Limiting salt intake with diet will help swelling go away faster.

Edema and bruises seen after nose surgery 2-3. day reaches its maximum level, then it starts to dissolve quickly. It is recommended that you contact your doctor if the edema and bruises increase again after they decrease. Therefore, it is difficult to say when you have achieved your “final result”. However, most of the edema and irregularities resolve within a year.

The person undergoing the operation may request a second surgery if he or she has nasal vision and/or breathing problems during the post-operative period. A second surgery decision can be planned after your nose has completely healed. This recovery can take up to a year.

Follow-up care after rhinoplasty is important. Regardless of the complaint after nose surgery, it is recommended that patients come to a doctor's control in the 1st and 6th months.
