There are 3 pairs of large salivary glands:
Parotid gland:It is located on the cheek, in front of the auricle and under the earlobe.
Submandibular gland. (sub-chin) salivary gland:located in the lower part of the jawbone.
Sublingual (sublingual) salivary gland:located in the middle, in the lower part of the jawbone and tongue.
Most salivary gland tumors occur in the parotid gland, less frequently in the submandibular, sublingual and minor salivary glands. Most parotid gland tumors (80%), 50% of submandibular salivary gland tumors, and 10% of sublingual and minor salivary gland tumors are benign.
Symptoms in salivary gland tumors:
The only symptom of benign tumors is painless swelling. The swelling may be under the earlobe, in front of the auricle, under the jawbone or under the tongue. There is usually no pain and the growth rate is slow.
Malignant tumor symptoms:
Rapidly growing swelling
Pain
Facial paralysis
Skin discoloration
Treatment:Surgical treatment is applied to most salivary gland tumors. There is no need for additional treatment other than surgery for benign tumors. In malignant tumors, radiotherapy or chemotherapy may also be used after surgery.
