Premenstrual Pains

Premenstrual distress is a problem especially faced by adult women of reproductive age and can sometimes interfere with normal life. It usually manifests itself within 7-10 days before menstruation and gradually decreases with the onset of menstruation. This cycle is compatible with the post-ovulation cycle.

How often does PMS occur?

Approximately 5% of women have premenstrual problems (PMS).

What are the symptoms?

In studies conducted on women with PMS, approximately56% of them have depression, 48%have irritability,36% have depression. It is reported that 100% of the population has extreme anxiety, 26% of them have emotional turmoil, and 23% of them have headaches. There may be only one of these problems, or several of them may exist together. The fact that it generally becomes apparent after ovulation has led to a connection with ovulation hormones. However, today the exact cause of PMS has not been revealed.

What is the treatment method?

The treatment methods for this problem, which has no cause, are also controversial. Regular exercise, staying away from caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes, and regular sleep may be useful as precautions. In addition, vitamin pills containing calcium, magnesium and B vitamins may be beneficial. Mild sedatives can be added to these. Since the main factors to blame are ovulation hormones, contraceptive pills and similar drugs that suppress ovulation are also given for treatment purposes. Natural pills made with the extract of the Evening Primrose plant may also be beneficial. It should not be forgotten that these measures are only successful in a certain percentage of women.
