I DO THE HOMEWORK, MY CHILD TAKES IT TO SCHOOL...

In every home where there are children going to school, the name of the war between parents and children is studying. Families complain that their children do not work and that children do not understand their parents' work. The first thing to check at home where these discussions take place is whether the child has a situation that would prevent him from studying. Attention deficit, learning disability, depression, anxiety disorder, problems in friendships, and behavioral problems may be overlooked by us. If we have done what is necessary for these or if they are not available, it is necessary to look at the child's capacity. Maybe our expectations may be higher than our child's abilities. Then, what needs to be done is not to force him to fulfill our wishes, but to adjust our expectations according to his level and make everyone happy. Conditions that prevent studying No matter how much you want to study and how well it is planned, some external conditions may prevent studying. The place where you work is very important. A room that is cluttered, has a lot of furniture, has a beautiful view, has lots of posters on the walls, and has a TV will become a room for not being able to work rather than a study room. The desk top is as important as the room. Working on a couch or bed is not productive. The study should be at the table and chair. The table should be cleared of distracting objects and only classroom equipment should be included. Our minds can get caught up in other things. The way to isolate yourself from outside activity is to be away. When the door is closed and there are no sounds, the attraction of the outside decreases.

When there are problems that we mentioned at the beginning, it is the duty of the parents to look for solutions. But if there is no problem, then it would be useful to review your own attitudes. A family that takes full responsibility for matters such as studying and doing homework from the moment the child starts school does not have the right to demand that the child suddenly realize that this is his or her problem. The family's duty is to prepare the appropriate environment from the very beginning, to be determined and to control it. Instead, worrying and taking ownership of the event more than that will cause the child to perceive studying as something he must do for his family. Then he uses work against the family. In other words, he starts using them to make them happy, to achieve his wishes, or to make them angry. But that's his job and must bear its positive and negative consequences. The results are not changed by the family constantly saying "work, please work" or yelling and getting angry at home. Similarly, offering bribes leads to false results. Families promise something to the child if he/she studies and they call it a "reward". However, this is bribery. And it opens the way for the child to earn money from a job that he is actually obliged to do. Similarly, empty threats are meaningless. It is the responsibility of families to restrict and control activities such as TV, computer and playstation during class time, as well as to punish them by depriving them of certain activities when the task is not done.

RULES OF EFFICIENT STUDYING1- First of all, to decide. must. Studying is a job. To start this business, you should not be stubborn and wait for the request. 2- The course to be studied and the purpose should be determined. It is not the time spent working, but what is done that is important. Families often find time is short. But sitting at a desk for a long time does not mean working. 3- Work is productive when it is done with breaks. There should be 15-minute rest periods between 45-minute work breaks. Rates may vary in children with attention deficit. 4-When you start, you should have determined where you will work and for how long. 5- Adjust your working hours according to the times when you learn best and when your attention is at its best. 6-Rest includes activities such as getting fresh air, drinking water, and walking around the house. Things like talking on the phone with friends, watching TV, sleeping etc. prevent the return. 7-The order of studying is also important. Studying the more difficult courses at the most productive time and not studying similar courses consecutively but interleaving different courses increases efficiency. Studying and doing homework are actually different concepts. But partly because of the confusion created by the system, everyone considers studying as homework... Homework is one thing, studying is different...
