Regulation means regulating a system or organization according to internal and external factors to achieve a specific goal or achieve a specific goal. In short, it means the factor that enables us to stay in the moment.
Why do we care so much about regulation?
Because if an individual has a disorder in their regulation, attention cannot work. Without attention exercises, the child cannot progress and it is very difficult to learn new things.
Is regulation only for individuals with autism spectrum disorder?
No. It is a condition that can happen to all individuals from time to time. Let's exemplify this:
You are sitting with your friend. Your friend is telling you about the book he just bought. Actually, you are interested in the book, but you can't listen to it. Because your tooth hurts. No matter what you do, you cannot focus on the book your friend is talking about. Because your tooth hurts. Your friend is actually very nice, very excited, but you still can't listen and focus. Because your tooth hurts.
Actually, it is very simple and is an example of a complete regulation disorder that we may encounter at the time. When we observe a regulation disorder in individuals, we make it a target to study regulation before all teachings.
When we enter the Floortime room for each session, we do not think "mmmm, I wonder if I study my 4th step from the Floortime steps today", they question whether the child's regulation is good and 1 We examine its regulation as a duty.
So what is the goal in the regulation study?
The most important thing we care about when working on regulation in a child is their individual awareness. So the child
Vestibular sensitivity
Sensory sensitivity
Auditory sensitivity
Tactile sensitivity
Proprioceptive sensitivity
Smell – Taste sensitivities
After preparing a suitable session room, if there is no problem in terms of individual sensitivities;
What happened while you were coming?
Why is she angry or why so happy?
Why is its regulation broken?
I wonder what the mother or father said to the child when they came?
'' For example, some of our families They can bring it to the sessions by saying that they are going to the market. ''
Why? From where ? From where ?
We always question why in regulation.
What do we aim for in regulation studies?
We always aim to ensure that the child can be regulated with adult support (Therapist support) and then become independent by getting rid of this support. Let's start with the toothache example above.
When we are little, our mother gives us medicine or we try to reduce the pain with herbal treatments. If the pain was getting worse, then our mother would take us to the doctor.
This example is a mother-assisted, adult-assisted regulation method. Because our mother directs us.
Now, as adults, we take a medicine or try to do simple herbal treatments. If the pain is getting worse, then we go to the doctor.
This example, however similar, is an example of independent regulation. Because we do it ourselves. We are aware of ourselves that when we have a toothache, we are aware that we need to do something. We are trying to find alternative solutions. We want a regulated individual to do the same.
To put it briefly, regulation brings attention to us. Attention makes it a goal to teach us something. Learning something involves giving meaning to a concept or an object. Giving meaning to a concept raises awareness. Mindfulness teaches us everything.
