Peyronie's disease is caused by damage to penile tissue that results in the formation of scar tissue called plaque. Depending on the location and size of the plaque, the penis may bend up or down or become indented. The twisting may occur suddenly (almost overnight) or it may be gradual, starting with pain and lumps that develop into a hardened sore. Although Peyronie's disease is most common in middle-aged men, it can occur at any age.
In the non-surgical treatment of Peyronie's disease;
1-Drugs
Drug therapy, especially in the acute period It is beneficial for most men affected by Peyronie's disease. For example, oral Vitamin E will shrink plaques and may help straighten a bent penis.
As an alternative to oral medications, injecting certain medications directly into the plaque can provide relief, especially for men in the acute phase of the disease who are unsure of whether to undergo surgery. For example, injections of verapamil may help relieve acute symptoms in Peyronie's disease by disrupting the protein responsible for lesion formation. Injection therapy can be administered using a combination of the above drugs plus hyaluronidase, betamethasone, or prostaglandin E1. Another method of administering these drugs is iontophoresis (electromotor application/EMDA), where the drug is applied to the skin of the penis and then pushed through the skin using a low electric current.
2- ESWT (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy)
ESWT (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy) means treatment by transmitting shock waves obtained outside the body with the help of a probe. ESWT therapy has been used in medicine for many years. First, shock waves produced outside the body were used to break kidney stones. It has also been used in other medical fields other than urology in a short time. Diseases such as heel spur, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow showed signs of improvement with this treatment. Shock waves are basically characterized by a regeneration in the body, an increase in healing cells and the formation of new vascularity. Shock waves, which are well known for their healing effect in kidney stones, found a new field in urology in a short time. It has been used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in recent years. It has been started to be used with the aim of increasing the formation of new vessels, especially in erectile dysfunction caused by vascular occlusion.
