Before panic attack treatment and solutions, let's take a brief look at what a panic attack is. Panic attack; It is an intense fear attack that occurs with severe physical symptoms, although there is no apparent cause and no real danger. People experiencing panic attacks experience extreme fear and may think they are having a heart attack or dying. Most people may experience one or two attacks in their lifetime. However, the constant occurrence of attacks brings to mind panic disorder.
- Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy, that is, talking therapy, applied to patients diagnosed with panic disorder can provide high benefits. The patient may feel greatly relieved as he talks. During the treatment process, the psychotherapist can manage the process successfully by giving the patient certain homework assignments.
- Medication: It is mandatory for some panic disorder patients to use medication. There is a lot of misinformation about drug treatment, the most common of which is that it causes addiction. However, only a very small portion of drugs are addictive. The medications used have no risk of triggering or increasing panic attacks. However, since the effects of medications vary from person to person within 2 to 3 weeks, a person may experience panic attacks within 2 to 3 weeks of starting to use medication.
- TMS treatment: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a device that converts the electrical energy created according to the electromagnetic induction law into magnetic energy and uses the magnetic waves obtained by this transformation to treat neurological and psychiatric diseases. Magnetic currents concentrated on the skull pass through the skin and skull without causing any damage, reach the brain area and provide stimulation. This stimulation activates nerve cells and cures the discomfort. In panic attacks, the TMS method provides very good results for patients who are very affected by the side effects of medications. Using TMS therapy alongside medication increases the patient's compliance with the medication.
- Breathing exercises: Breathing exercises are of great importance during a panic attack. Although people who have never done any breathing exercises before try to do breathing exercises during a panic attack, they often experience headaches. They are helpless. For this reason, people should do plenty of breathing exercises outside of panic attacks. These exercises are performed by the person breathing deeply through the nose, holding it in for 5 seconds, and exhaling through the mouth.
- Being informed: The person suffering from panic disorder is explained what a panic attack is. He is told that panic attacks will not harm him and will not kill him. It is emphasized that he will not lose control and that nothing will happen to him. However, it is said that he may experience attacks during the treatment.
