EYELID AESTHETICS (BLEPHAROPLASTY)

Blepharoplasty (eyelid aesthetics) is an operation that removes excess skin from the eyelids and eliminates sagging of the eyelids. With aging, the skin on the upper eyelid becomes redder, and the fatty tissue here curves forward. These sags can sometimes extend to the visual field. Excess skin folds on the lower eyelid, fatty tissue herniates forward as the fascia loosens, and there may be occasional collapses under the eyes. A dark ring occurs.

Who can have it performed?

This operation can be performed on all adult men and women. Eyelids are an area where signs of aging begin early. For this reason, it is one of the most common aesthetic operations performed in middle ages. Sometimes, due to genetic predisposition, bags under the eyes occur at an early age. In this case, the operation can be performed even on a patient aged 20-25.

OperationBlepharoplasty can be performed with local and general anesthesia. Depending on the problem, only the lower or upper lids can be operated. If the upper and lower lids are performed together, the operation takes about 2 hours. If only the upper or lower lid is performed, it takes approximately 1 hour.

There are different operation techniques in blepharoplasty. As a standard, in this operation, the upper eyelids are opened from the lid crease, the lower eyelids are opened from under the eyelashes, the necessary reinforcements are made for fatty tissue herniation (by removing excess fat tissues if necessary), excess skin is removed and the lids are stitched in a tense manner.

After the operation

Since the eyelid skin is very thin and the scars are hidden in the wrinkles, these operation scars can only be noticed very closely. The stitches are of the dissolving type, they dissolve within the tissue on their own, there is no need to remove them. After the operation, the eyes are not closed, only small leather bands are applied to the operation lines on the lid. is placed and a cold pad is applied to the eyelids. On the 3rd day after the operation, thin bands around the eyes are removed.

After the operation, the patient can go home on the same day. Those operated under general anesthesia can stay in the hospital for 1 night. After this operation, wearing lenses may be restricted for up to 1 week. There is no obstacle to wearing glasses.

Possible risks

Swelling and bruising may occur for 7-10 days after the operation. Infection, recession and asymmetry in the lids are rare complications that may occur. Pain is so minimal that it can be ignored.

Midface lift with lower eyelid aesthetics

In some patients, it is possible to tighten the formations in the midface by widening the limits of lower eyelid aesthetics. In this case, the eyelid scar is shifted 10-15 mm outward from the lower lid border.
