As the pregnancy progresses, this question preoccupies expectant mothers more, while knowing how to make the choice helps them avoid stress and have a happy pregnancy.
Birth by cesarean section is delivered vaginally (or otherwise known as normal birth) for the mother and the baby. It is preferred in situations where it poses a danger. Caesarean section is performed by planning in advance upon detection of a dangerous situation or in emergency and life- and health-threatening situations that develop during pregnancy or vaginal birth.
Planned cesarean section:
- In cases where the placenta blocks the birth path, in cases of incorrect or excessive adhesion of the placenta
- When the baby enters the birth path with the feet or breech instead of the head, or when the baby is on its side in the uterus - with a previous cesarean section, which is a situation where uterine contractions can cause tearing and unpreventable bleeding. In case of giving birth or having undergone uterine myoma surgery
- There is a disorder that prevents the baby from being born vaginally (such as spinal and abdominal opening, accumulation of water in the head called hydrocephalus, tumors called teratoma)
- In case the bone or muscle structure of the birth path is not suitable for birth or is narrow
- In case the mother has a heart, brain, lung, spinal cord or bone disease that does not allow vaginal birth with pushing movements
- It is performed in case the mother has a genital infection that can be transmitted to the baby during birth.
Emergency cesarean section:
- Sudden separation of the placenta (placental abruption). In case of emergency
- In case of emergency due to irregular or weakening of the baby's heartbeat
- In case of insufficient contractions during vaginal birth and labor does not progress
- In case the baby's head cannot make correct turning movements on the way to birth It is performed in case the birth does not progress as a result of incorrect positioning of the head.
Vaginal birth is possible in most pregnancies. Correct assessment of risks by the doctor ensures that the decision for caesarean section is made correctly. The point that should not be forgotten is this: as a result of both vaginal birth and cesarean delivery, the aim is for a healthy mother to hold a healthy baby.
