WHAT IS OVULATION INDUCTION?
Ovulation induction (OI), that is, ovulation treatment, is the stimulation of ovulation with medication. In other words, it is based on the principle of developing 1 or more healthy and mature eggs from the ovaries by using some egg enhancing drugs and thus increasing the chance of pregnancy. It is especially used in infertile women who do not ovulate regularly.
WHO SHOULD OVULATION INDUCTION APPLY?
Normally, women ovulate regularly every month. Such women usually have regular periods and have a high chance of getting pregnant. Some women do not ovulate regularly. Their menstrual periods are generally irregular. There may also be some accompanying hormonal disorders. For example, polycystic ovary disease. Sometimes, even if a woman's menstrual period is regular, ovulation may not occur or the time of ovulation may vary greatly. Ensuring ovulation in such patients regularly and at the appropriate time increases the patient's chance of pregnancy like healthy women. For this reason, this treatment is applied to women who do not ovulate at all, are irregular or infrequent, but have good ovarian reserve. Sometimes this treatment can also be applied to women with egg maturation and cracking abnormalities. In order for a woman with ovulation problems to receive this treatment, she must have no other problems, her tubes must be open and her husband's sperm test must be normal.
HOW IS OVULATION INDUCTION DONE?
Ovulation treatment is applied to patients who have the capacity to produce healthy eggs, have good ovarian reserve, and have open tubes. These women should not have any other reproductive problems and their husbands' sperm test results should be normal.
There are many drugs used for egg development. Which of these to use is decided according to the patient's ovarian reserve, test results, and previous treatments.
HOW SUCCESSFUL IS OVULATION INDUCTION?
The success of the treatment varies depending on the woman's age, ovarian reserve, medication used and whether there are any other fertility problems. In patients who are young, have good ovarian reserve and have no other problems, 90% ovulation is achieved with treatment. Pregnancy rates are 3-15% for each month of treatment.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF OVULATION TREATMENT?
