Anger management; The Purpose Is Not To Destroy Anger, But To Control It

Although anger is often perceived as negative, it is extremely natural like other emotions and is functional for our lives when expressed correctly. The instinctive and natural way we express anger is through aggressive reactions. This response is necessary to protect ourselves in case of attack, but when left uncontrolled, it becomes destructive. That's why we need to learn how to deal with anger and how to express it constructively.

Why Do We Get Angry?

We experience many setbacks that go wrong during the day. Naturally, we get angry. While some of us are more tolerant of anger, some of us can exhibit destructive behavior. The reason for this may be genetic. A person's character traits are important in anger control. At the same time, the socio-cultural characteristics and the person's family life are also affecting factors.

How Can We Deal With Anger?

Anger is a very strong emotion and it can be expressed correctly. Being able to do this is important for our relationships and our own health. Anger can be reflected in many different ways. The person may choose to keep to himself and remain silent at that moment. This is not true. If anger that is not expressed properly turns inward, this causes depression. We must remind ourselves that getting angry doesn't solve anything, doesn't make us feel better, and may even make us feel worse. Instead, we should explain what makes us angry by using "I" language. When we use the language "you", the person can defend himself and attack. This is an element that increases our anger even more. Correct communication is important.

On the other hand, the person may overreact instead of remaining silent. The first thing we should do in that moment of anger is to take a deep breath and check what we are feeling at that moment. We must be aware of what makes us angry and give ourselves suggestions to relax. Dwelling on why we are angry makes us even more angry, so it is important to be solution-oriented in these times.

Despite all your efforts, if your anger negatively affects your relationships and mood, do not hesitate to get help from an expert!
