Medical prostheses that are placed on the outer surface of the eye to correct refractive errors, treat some external surface diseases of the eye and can be used for cosmetic purposes.
Why Are Contact Lenses Used?
Medically Necessary Conditions:
- Patients who had unilateral cataract surgery and not fitted with an artificial intraocular lens

- Albino patients
- Those with irregular or high astigmatism and myopia above six diopters
Prostatic (aesthetic) lenses: Soft contact lenses in the other eye color for aesthetic purposes applied to patients whose one eye turns white for any reason and has no vision
Therapeutic (bandage) lenses: Some Lenses used for treatment in corneal disorders
Situations where contact lenses cannot be used
- Chronic infections, systemic diseases, drug use
- Recurrent corneal irritations and ulcerations
- Eye eyelid disorders
- Very high corneal astigmatism
- Dry eye patients
- Those who have had some eye pressure surgery

What are the Types of Contact Lenses?
What Should Be Considered About Contact Lenses?
Things to consider when buying contact lenses must go. The lens brand specified in the prescription must be the same as the lens sold to you. Accordingly, the prescription should be approved by going to your doctor again. The duration of the prescription is one year. At the end of this period, the eye doctor should be examined again.
Things to consider when using contact lenses
The wearing times recommended by the doctor, lens cleaning and lens replacement times must be strictly followed. In case of any changes in the eye while using contact lenses, it is absolutely necessary to stop wearing lenses and go to an ophthalmologist.
What are the Side Effects of Contact Lens?
Oxygen permeability, application and cleaning of the contact lens are very important. With incomplete oxygenation of the cornea, edema may develop in the corneal surface layer (epithelium). As a result, microbial agents can easily enter the epithelium, which has become fragile, and initiate infections.
When the oxygen permeability of the lens is not sufficient, vascularization in the peripheral part of the cornea layer, loss of corneal sensation, size and deformity of the cells of the innermost layer of the cornea may develop. An allergic picture occurs under the upper eyelid due to lack of cleanliness and allergies.
Over time, curvature defects may develop in the lens. Contact lenses themselves can also increase tear evaporation.
