Bloating Complaint and Plants

The wide muscular tube that forms the digestive system extends from the mouth to the anus, where it moves with the release of hormones and enzymes to ensure digestion of food. The air formed in the digestive system is called gas (in the stomach - intestines..) In some cases, some gases produced in the intestine mix with the bloodstream and are carried to the lungs and exhaled (bad breath).

What causes gas?

Normal body gas is between 100-200ml. Burping causes some gas to escape into the stomach. The remaining gas moves into the small intestine. Some of it is absorbed, the other part moves to the large intestine to exit through the anus. Gas usually occurs when we swallow air, or it is a formation created by bacteria in the intestine while digesting food.

In what situations do we swallow air?

Air comes with almost every food we eat. we swallow. However, some situations and foods cause us to swallow more air. These are;

-Eating and drinking fast - consuming carbonated drinks

-Smoking

-Chewing gum

-Frozen iced or carbonated drinks

-Drinking with a straw

-Using lots of dentures.

How does gas occur when intestinal bacteria digest food?

. The stomach and small intestine cannot fully digest sugar, starch and fiber. These undigested foods move from the small intestine to the large intestine. Carbohydrates that are not digested first are broken down by bacteria in the large intestine, and hydrogen and CO2 are released during this process. Other bacteria take in the hydrogen gas and convert it into methane gas or hydrogen sulfide (usually sulfur gas accumulates). The more sulfur the resulting gas contains, the greater the odor.

Which foods cause gas?

-Many foods containing carbohydrates cause gas. In return, fats and protein create fewer gas problems. A food that causes gas problems in one person may not cause gas problems in another person.
