The factors most responsible for occlusion in the cardiovascular system are negative lifestyle situations. So, is it beneficial to make changes in lifestyle in older ages to prevent blockages in the cardiovascular vessels? So can we say "he is seventy years old, the job is done"? Some people may think, "I'm old now, what would happen if I changed my habits? It wouldn't help." But this thought is wrong. Many studies have shown that lifestyle changes are always beneficial, regardless of the stage of adulthood.
One of the studies on this subject is the CARDIA study, which has been going on for many years. Evaluating the results of this study, researchers showed that a healthy change in lifestyle is very beneficial even at older ages. In this study, 3500 people were followed for approximately 20 years. Researchers examined the effect of living a healthy lifestyle on two indicators that determine arteriosclerosis in these people. One of these indicators is the measurement of calcification in the cardiac vessels (CAC), and the other is the determination of the inner thickness (IMT) of the neck vessels. In this study, it has been shown that healthy changes in lifestyle at all ages positively affect both of these indicators.
So what does a healthy lifestyle mean? Let's list these briefly; Paying attention to weight, consuming less alcohol, eating healthy foods, keeping physical activity high, and avoiding smoking. This study showed that coronary heart disease indicators worsened in people who further increased their bad lifestyle habits.
In this case, we should not forget a French proverb. "Even late is not too late
". This study strengthens the hands of physicians dealing with patient treatment in terms of recommending a healthy lifestyle, even at all ages.
