There are many different reasons for gum recession. These reasons may be structural and genetic, some are due to irritating factors, and some are due to gum diseases. The structure of tooth roots, disorders in the chewing system, and the length of muscle attachments are some of the structural reasons. Irritating causes can be listed as harsh and improper tooth brushing, bacterial plaque and tartar, bad habits such as nail biting and pen biting, and inappropriate filling-crown and bridge restorations. Due to gum recession, tooth decay, tooth sensitivity, and aesthetic problems may occur. In the treatment of gingival recession, different treatments can be applied, such as periodontal treatments or covering the recession with crown bridge restorations, depending on the size and location of the recession. But the priority in treatment begins with finding the cause and eliminating it. In other words, if gum recession is due to gum disease, the priority should be to treat the gum disease, or if the recession is due to a faulty filling, the replacement of this filling will be the first step of the treatment.
Having a healthy gum. When dried, it is light pink in color, resembles an orange peel, and surrounds the teeth all around. There is a gum pocket between the healthy gum and the tooth, the depth of which varies between 1 and 3 mm. If infection occurs in the gums, a bleeding, swollen and red appearance occurs. Gum diseases occur as a result of infections in the gums and bone that surround and support the teeth.
The oral environment is full of microorganisms, these microorganisms constantly form sticky, colorless plaques on the teeth, called bacterial plaque. Brushing and flossing helps prevent bacterial plaque formation. Bacterial plaques that are not cleaned harden and form tartar that cannot be cleaned by brushing. If bacterial plaque and tartar are not cleaned, it causes acid formation on the tooth surface, weakening the tooth enamel, causing caries and may cause gum disease.
During gingivitis, which is the early stage of gum disease, the gums may become swollen and red. and may bleed, this stage of the disease can be reversible so routine check-ups are an important part of the diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases. It is of great importance. If gingivitis is left untreated, a more serious condition called periodontitis occurs. At this stage, the gums may recede, the alveolar bone supporting the teeth may dissolve, the teeth may become loose, and even tooth loss may occur.
Symptoms of gum disease are as follows:
-Bleeding bad breath-Bleeding Gums-Red Gums
-Swollen Gums -Pain when chewing -Loosing and gaping teeth
-Sensitive Gums -Gum recession -Teeth that appear long
-Abscess formations
