NOSE SURGERY WITHOUT BUFFER

-- -What is nasal cartilage bone curvature (septum deviation)?

It means the curvature of the cartilage and bone structure inside the nose, which divides the nose into 2 compartments

-- -What kind of complaints does it cause?

The most common complaint in nasal cartilage bone curvature is nasal congestion and nasal obstruction

It is the inability to breathe easily. Nasal congestion is usually on the side where the septum is tilted, but

it can also cause constant congestion in both nostrils or variable nasal congestion, sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left.

Inability to breathe adequately through the nose during exertion and at rest, and dryness in the mouth in the morning due to sleeping with the mouth open at night may be observed. Nasal cartilage and bone curvature may cause snoring, may cause continuous mouth breathing and lead to pharyngitis, and may predispose to recurrent sinusitis attacks and nose bleeding due to curvature. It may cause facial and headaches, and postnasal drip.

The air required for the lungs must pass through the nose. The nose has functions such as heating, humidifying and cleaning the air. As a result of nasal cartilage and bone curvature, air passage through the nose decreases. Unprocessed air taken from the mouth can cause problems in the upper respiratory tract and

lungs.

-- -What is turbinate?

These are the meats located in the inner part of the nose, on the side walls. In some cases, nasal congestion may develop due to excessive growth. In people with nasal cartilage bone curvature, turbinate growths are often seen on the opposite

side of the curvature.

-- -How is nasal cartilage bone curvature treated?

>

Nasal cartilage bone curvature correction surgery is called septoplasty. It is performed to correct problems that prevent the nose from performing its

function. Surgery is performed after the age of 17-18 in men and 15-16 in women, as the bone structure matures.

However, in some special cases, intervention can be performed at an earlier age.

The basic principle of septoplasty surgeries is the surgery on the front of the nose. and correcting the cartilage-bone curvature inside the nose by preserving the support on the back of the nose. In the majority of cases, it is possible to perform the surgery by making an incision inside the nose, which we call closed technique. Since the surgery is performed from inside the nose, there is no deformation, bruising, swelling or surgery scar on the outer part of the nose. The patient

is usually sent home on the same day. He can do all kinds of activities the next day and return to work within a few days

.

-- -Is tampon application necessary after surgery?

Nose surgeries are a group of surgeries that people often look at with fear and often avoid even though they have discomfort

. The most important reason for this is the buffer. In the past, a nasal tampon was placed in both nostrils at the end of the surgery. This situation made it very difficult for the patient to breathe and sometimes caused the patient to pull out the tampon due to air hunger, which was dangerous and resulted in bleeding. Now, after the stitches we put inside the nose during the surgery, there is no need for tampons, and the patient who breathes normally through the nostrils after the surgery feels very comfortable and these stitches dissolve on their own

They do not need to be removed for the purpose.

Approximately 5% of the patients may need to insert tampons, but with today's

technology, these tampons do not stick to the surroundings and do not come off easily and do not cause pain or bleeding.

In addition, some tampons have a hole in the middle, which allows the patient

to breathe while using the tampon.

In cases where the turbinates grow excessively, the turbinates are removed without any incision by radiofrequency method

can be made smaller.
