How Does Tooth Decay Occur?

There are always microorganisms in the mouth. These are natural flora and they protect us from diseases. They are very diverse and exist in balance in our mouth. However, when we consume a lot of foods containing sugar, the number of microorganisms that use sugar to form acid increases. The acid created by these sugar-consuming bacteria destroys the mineral structure of our teeth and tooth decay occurs.

With developing technology, our eating habits have also changed a lot. Unfortunately, we eat more, more sugary and more acidic. In our daily hustle and bustle, we satisfy our hunger not with an apple or nuts, but with ready-made foods that are much easier to access. We order pizza and coke to our workplace or find ourselves at a nearby doner restaurant during lunch break. We roll biscuits at tea time and we love chocolate. With this diet, we are surrounded by plaque accumulated on our teeth all day long and bacteria that consume that plaque and create acid. Even if we brush our teeth before going to bed at night, it is not enough; things happen throughout the day. Then, when we wake up at night with a toothache and go to the dentist, saying "I am brushing my teeth", we are surprised by this situation.

SO WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO PREVENT OUR TEETH FROM DECAY?

-----Eat as healthy foods as possible. let's eat.

-----Let's avoid snacks or consume healthy snacks.

-----If possible, let's brush our teeth after lunch.

-- ---Who doesn't like chocolate with coffee? Let's eat it, but at least let's rinse our mouth.

-----Let's brush at the right time and in the right way.

----See our dentist at regular intervals. Let's go for a check-up so that a simple problem does not turn into torture for us.

HOW SHOULD BRUSHING CORRECT TEETH BE?

The purpose of brushing teeth is to clean the dental plaque that forms on our teeth after every meal.

----- For this reason, brushing should be done after eating.

-------Lower and upper teeth should be brushed separately.

--------The brush is placed at an angle to the gum and swept towards the tooth to massage the gum.

-------The brush should touch each tooth 4-5 times.

---------- Make sure your teeth are visible. All surfaces must be cleaned.

--------Finally, the tongue should also be brushed as microorganisms that multiply on the tongue may cause infection.

------If the spaces between our teeth are cramped, floss once a day.

-------We should use an interdental brush if our dentist recommends it.
