DRUG ALLERGY

Allergy and Chest Disease Specialist Prof. Dr. Ali Kutlu warned the citizens by stating that drug allergy is the most feared type of allergic diseases and sometimes results in death.
Although all kinds of drug-related side effects are thought to be drug allergies among the public, real drug allergies only account for 5-10 percent of these reactions. Medical Park Ordu Hospital Allergy and Chest Disease Specialist Prof. noted that it was created. Dr. Ali Kutlu said, "Allergic reactions are most common to antibiotics and painkillers, but all medications, including herbal medicines, can cause allergic reactions." Dr. Ali Kutlu gave the following information: “Drug allergies are more common in the young-middle age group and women. There is a familial predisposition for some drug allergies. Just because a person has an allergic background does not mean that he or she is prone to drug allergy. However, when allergic reactions occur in these people, they are more severe. There is usually a sensitization period in allergic diseases. This period is longer than 1 week on average. In other words, in order for a person to actually develop a drug allergy, the person must have used this drug before. We may not always be able to remember the medications we have used in the past, or we may have used different medications with similar chemical structures. A person may experience a severe allergic reaction to a drug that they have used for years without any problems. There are no reliable skin or blood tests to show allergy to most medications. One reason for this is that drugs transform into very different structures in the human body after they are taken. In other words, the medicines do not stay as they are in the box.”

EVEN A LOW DOSE OF MEDICINE CAN REACT.
Especially if you use a lot of medicines. Prof. noted that the diagnosis of drug allergy in elderly patients can become inextricable. Dr. Kutlu continued: “It is not necessary to use the drug in high doses for severe reactions to occur; severe reactions can also occur in small doses. If you experience widespread body redness, shortness of breath, palpitations, or dark eyes shortly after using any medication, you should definitely consult your doctor, and the same medication should not be used a second time, even if the dose is reduced. In cases where the patient must use allergy-causing medication, alternative safe medications can be given to patients in a controlled manner, starting from very low doses in allergy clinics. This procedure should only be performed in well-equipped hospitals.”
