Babies and Sleep

Sleep is very important for our cognitive and emotional intelligence at all ages. In order to be healthy and think properly, we need to get the sleep we need, whether it is day or night sleep. Sleep is very important for our mood and performance during the day. Thanks to what happens in the brain during sleep, we can feel good and think clearly throughout the day.

Mothers who have just given birth, you are right! "Ugh! I can almost hear you complaining, "Why doesn't he sleep at night?" No one is used to taking care of a crying baby with two or three hours of sleep! You always wonder, don't you, when their sleep will be regular? Does it happen gradually? Suddenly? Or does it vary according to the development of all of them? The "Infant Sleep Study" was created at New York University to investigate this. They met with families and saw how they used the program. Families took note of the babies' sleeping and waking times.

When does the sleep pattern occur?

Parents need to prepare themselves for the night because newborn babies sleep during the day and do not sleep at night until they are one month old. The question that mothers are most curious about during this process is; “Will he sleep through the night?” is happening. But in the first month, there is no order as to when the baby will sleep and when to eat. They sleep randomly and eat randomly. This situation is very distressing for parents. When we look at the eighth month, an order begins to emerge, but when we look at the first year, a clear order emerges. They sleep throughout the night, go to sleep after feeding in the morning, and go back to sleep about five hours after waking up. The good news here is; All babies definitely go from insomnia to sleep routine within a year! So, in the first three months, sentences like "no matter what I do, he doesn't sleep, he resists sleep, sometimes he sleeps right away, sometimes he doesn't sleep at all" are very normal, dear mothers.

How does sleep improve learning and memory?

Sleep, directly proportional to memory. Daytime naps are important, not just for the mother to take a break, they lay the foundations of everything they will experience and establish the memories to be created. The transition to permanent memory is then achieved. Babies learn about the world while they sleep.

Circadian rhythm It refers to changes in logical and biological processes. You need to wait for the human sleep-wake cycle, the most basic and determining rhythm) to establish a connection.

While your baby seems to be sleeping very comfortably, he suddenly wakes up and puts his left leg and left arm in the air at the same time. He wakes up and then suddenly falls asleep again. They may experience sleeping and waking many times within 24 hours. This is what makes babies different! Before three or four months of age, there is not much you can do to help babies sleep soundly at night; the connection in the circadian system needs to be established. Dear mothers, you can relax by thinking about this during this time.

Sleep is designed for the brain to solve an extremely difficult problem, to learn about the world. Babies do this while they sleep and solve one of the most difficult questions in the universe. During sleep, the brain works furiously and is very active. Let them sleep!
