The Effect of the Mind on the Body's Sickness

Did you know that scientists can accurately predict people at higher risk of getting sick with almost 90% accuracy by listening to a person's past experiences and current conditions? What would you think if I told you that they accurately predicted which disease the person would contract with up to 70% of the time?

There is a lot of research on this subject in the world. Very roughly, if we talk about the situations that make people vulnerable to diseases, we can easily say the following; repression, inability to say no and unawareness of one's own anger, encountering situations where one cannot express one's emotions comfortably, one's needs are ignored and one's kindness is abused, excessive self-sacrifice. These are situations that trigger stress, whether the person is aware that they are experiencing stress or not.

Experiencing all of these over and over again and even multiplying over the years creates chronic stress in the person. Chronic stress disrupts the balance of hormones secreted in the body, thereby weakening the nervous system and immune system and opening the door to diseases.

At the same time, when we look at these studies, we see that people who experience serious boundary violations without being able to build an autonomous sense of self are at the greatest risk. The biggest indicator of not being able to draw boundaries is constantly and involuntarily "not being able to say no". Not having thoughts of our own and having to live dependent on others are some of them.

The essence of the matter again largely depends on awareness. Being aware of our emotions, knowing them well and being able to express them in a healthy way. Every emotion that is ignored and cannot find meaning continues to try to exist in the body.

“We experience life through our bodies. If we cannot clearly express our life experience, our bodies will say what our minds and mouths cannot say.”

For people who have not experienced this for years, it may be difficult to suddenly try to recognize and explain their feelings. But we can always find questions to ask ourselves. What do I desire in my life, what do I want more or less of, what are my limits? What do I feel and where in my body do I feel it? strong>feel?

Psychotherapy is the ability of a person to ask and answer questions to himself through a therapist, and to build his own path to recovery from those answers. A mind separate from the body is unthinkable; for a recovery in every sense, the mind must also get rid of chronic negativities.

Hope we regain our health in every aspect. Let's not forget that the health of one of us means the health of the society we live in.
