Hemorrhoids or Cancer?

Hemorrhoidal cushions located at the end of the intestinal system have important functions that prevent damage to the surrounding muscle layer. Damage, swelling and enlargement of these pillows for various reasons is called "hemorrhoidal disease".

Hemorrhoidal diseases generally cause similar problems in patients. These cause swelling, bleeding, ongoing pain and problems that make life miserable from time to time.

The last part of the large intestine is called the rectum. The rectum is centimeters closer to hemorrhoids in terms of distance. For this reason, benign and malignant tumors in the rectum can cause similar problems to hemorrhoids. In both diseases, bleeding occurs, and in both diseases, swelling in the anus and problems in the shape of the breast may occur. For this reason, it would be wrong to evaluate rectal bleeding and palpable breast-shaped swellings as direct hemorrhoids. If there are such complaints, starting medication on our own without consulting a professional physician will cause underlying diseases such as cancer to grow and progress, and unfortunately cause sad consequences. Patients with rectal bleeding should be examined due to the possibility of rectal cancer. It is possible to get rid of rectal cancer with early diagnosis, and therefore patients with bleeding complaints such as hemorrhoid disease complaints should be examined.

Weight loss with rectal bleeding, recent weakness and fatigue, and colon cancer in the family. We can often obtain sufficient information by asking important distinguishing points, such as having a medical history, during the examination. When such problems are accompanied by bleeding, patients should be evaluated with colonoscopy.

Removal of benign intestinal tumors called polyps by colonoscopy prevents cancers that may occur later. If suspected in patients who come for examination with minor bleeding, colon cancer can be prevented through early diagnosis after colonoscopy evaluation, and future cancer can be prevented thanks to non-surgical screening methods.
