    How is Infertility Diagnosed in Men?

    The most basic laboratory method in investigating men is semen analysis. This cheap and easy test is performed on all patients applying for infertility. Whether a woman or a man has had a child before does not change the necessity of starting the research with sperm analysis. If the sperm analysis is found to be normal, examinations for the woman are started immediately.

    What is a Sperm Test and How is it Evaluated?

    In order to make the right decision about the man's sperm, at least 2 sperm tests should be performed at 2-8 week intervals. . After 3 to 5 days of sexual abstinence, a sperm sample is taken by masturbation and examined in the laboratory. In sperm analysis, the number, motility and shape of sperm are evaluated. According to the criteria set by the World Health Organization for sperm testing in 2010, the lower limits of the sperm test to be considered normal are: volume 1.5 ml, sperm count in the whole sample 39 million, sperm count per ml 15 million, total motile sperm rate 40%, forward motility sperm rate is 32%, normal morphology according to Kruger is 4%. Sperm analysis must be performed in clinics or laboratories specialized in this field.

    Is it possible to treat male infertility?

    As a result of sperm analysis, there may be no sperm in the semen (azoospermia), or a decrease in the number of sperm (oligospermia). , decreased mobility (asthenozoospermia), deformity (teratozoospermia), or various combinations of these last three conditions may be observed. Treatment varies depending on the cause and degree of impairment in semen analysis. The cause of these problems in men cannot be explained in 30-40% of cases.

    Varicocele is a condition that is frequently observed in men and is accompanied by enlargement of the testicular veins. In these patients, a decrease in sperm count and motility and sperm deformities may be observed. Varicocele disease can be treated surgically. In men with varicocele, abnormally enlarged veins are treated by ligating them. Although some studies have shown that it has no benefit, it can provide a significant improvement. If there are hormonal disorders, sperm production is stimulated with drug treatments. If there is a blockage in the channels that carry sperm out, it can be opened surgically.

    Immunization Method  

    The IUI method is applied to couples whose sperm count is over 5 million after washing. At the time of ovulation, sperm is prepared by washing in the laboratory, motile sperm are concentrated in a small amount of liquid and placed directly into the uterus. The woman is usually treated with medication to increase the number of eggs and to inoculate at the time of ovulation.
