Agoraphobia and Panic Disorder

The word agoraphobia means "fear of space" in ancient Greek. This disorder is usually seen together with panic disorder, but can rarely be seen alone. The basis of the discomfort lies in the fear of having a panic attack. People do not want to be in crowded or narrow and cramped spaces where it is difficult to escape in case of a panic attack. In short, there is a fear of being in places where getting help and leaving the environment is limited.

Agoraphobia and Its Symptoms

Panic Disorder (Panic Attack) Treatment and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

In the treatment of panic attacks, the treatment is usually caused by these attacks. It starts by determining in what situations and how often it occurs. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most effective treatment methods in the treatment of panic disorder. In therapy, situations that people avoid to avoid experiencing panic attacks and their safety-seeking behaviors are evaluated. Situations in which the client feels anxiety are identified and these situations are worked on during therapy. The client is given homework outside the session to ensure that the therapy activity is not limited to just 40-50 minutes. As the client does the assigned homework, the feeling of panic and its frequency begin to decrease over time.
