MAN'S SEEK FOR MEANING
In this book written by Viktor Frankl, Frankl's life in the Nazi concentration camps, the pain he suffered, how he endured this pain, and how meaning is necessary for humans under all circumstances are explained. Below are my answers to the questions Teria and Batya asked about the book at the beginning of the training. I recommend you to read the book first.
SUMMARY
*Frankl's most important choice in his journey of suffering was that he decided to go to the huts of typhus patients and alleviate their suffering. Thus, choosing a meaningful death rather than living was a choice that made his experiences and death meaningful. He had to experience the painful situation he was facing in order not to lose his emotions. .
*The reward he gets at the end of his suffering story is to live, to have those very valuable experiences, and to understand that he can make his internal decisions freely, that is, his freedom.
*By suffering, he preserved his inner freedom and reached high moral values. .
*At the end of this process, Frankl became a person who had the courage to accept his fate in situations that he could not change, and who knew that he had the freedom to choose the good even in the most difficult situations. He became a person who was not afraid of anyone else.
* His experiences presented Frankl with the mission of showing people the meaning in their lives.
*The life mission given to Frankl is not to escape from pain, but to be useful to people by turning his painful experiences into lessons.
*WHAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT CHOICE IN THE JOURNEY OF SUFFERING?
Other doctors in the concentration camp were not providing medical services. When there was a typhus epidemic, Frankl was asked to take care of patients suffering from typhus. His friends warned him not to go. However, Frankl said, “Anyway, under these conditions, I will die on the island. He agreed to go to the barracks where the patients were, saying, "At least I will die while helping my comrades, it is more honorable that way." This was his important choice. Thus, it gave meaning to his death. This was to alleviate the pain of his sick comrades, and to ensure that they lived happier lives until they died, even if they eventually died. So he chose to live a shorter but meaningful
life rather than a longer meaningless life. The feeling of gratitude that more people would feel for him in their hearts would make him more present in this world. Life is not lived to live, but to feel its existence. As long as a person does not feel its existence, it means that he is not actually living. It means he's betraying his life. It means he is betraying the purpose of coming to this world.
