The main purpose of occupational therapy is the participation of individuals in daily life activities. Occupational therapists achieve this goal by improving the skills of people and communities to do the activities they want, need or are expected from them, or by arranging the activity or environment in a way that can better enable people's participation.
Occupational therapy consists of 3 areas:
1. Self-care:These are activities that allow personal practices that aim to care for the person within the integrity of his or her health. In other words, it typically includes activities in our social and daily lives.
2. Productivity: It consists of activities that normally fill a person's day, contribute to economic security, home and family ERGOTHERAPYcare, and ensure personal development. These are developmental games for children and activity training for older ages.
3. Leisure: Includes pursuits that a person engages in when he is not obliged to be productive. These activities are determined by personal preferences and interests. Occupational therapists work with all people who have disorders in their body structure and functions due to a health problem and who are excluded from society or whose participation is restricted due to the social or cultural minority group they belong to. Occupational therapists believe that participation; physical emotional or cognitive abilities of individuals; They believe that it is supported or constrained by the characteristics of the activity or the physical, cultural, social, behavioral or legal environment. For this reason, occupational therapy focuses on increasing the competence of people by regulating the individual, activity, environment, or some or all of these, in order to increase social participation.
Occupational therapy at home, school, workplace, factory, health centers, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, It has a wide area that includes public, private or voluntary organizations such as hospitals and judicial institutions.
