Fixed Prosthesis

Crown:
If teeth that are extremely damaged due to reasons such as caries and fractures have suffered too much tissue loss to be restored with composite / porcelain fillings, in such cases, the process of covering the teeth is called crown application. Depending on the patients' wishes, a choice can be made for the porcelain used, either containing metal (precious metal alloys or non-precious metal alloys) or containing no metal (zirconium).

Bridge:
If one or more tooth loss is not possible or preferred, it is a fixed prosthesis made to accommodate the gap by reducing the size of the adjacent teeth. As in crown applications, the infrastructure and porcelain types used here can be selected depending on the amount of space and the patient's wishes.

How are crowns and bridges made?
Before the crown or bridge is made. , the abutment tooth (or teeth) is reduced to fit the crown. After reducing the tooth(s), your dentist will model your tooth to make an accurate mold for the crown or bridge. If porcelain will be used, your dentist will determine the correct shade for the crown or bridge to match the color of your existing tooth. Using this mold, the dental laboratory prepares the crown or bridge from the material specified by your dentist. The temporary crown or bridge is placed in place to cover the prepared tooth until the permanent crown or bridge is made. When the permanent crown or bridge is ready, the temporary crown or bridge is removed and the new crown or bridge is glued on the prepared tooth or teeth.

How long can the crown and bridge be used?
Crowns and bridges can be used for years. The most important thing you need to do for your crown or bridge to be long-lasting is to protect your oral health. Maintain the health of your teeth and gums by brushing your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day and flossing every day. Also, see your dentist regularly for dental examinations and professional cleanings.
