STRABISMUS

It is a visual problem that occurs when both eyes lose parallelism with each other. There are six extraocular muscles in each eye, and lack or excess of strength in one or more of them causes strabismus. While one eye looks straight, the other may turn inward, outward, up or down. Eye strain can occur in one or both eyes. Additionally, strabismus can be temporary or permanent. Its distribution is equal between men and women. Early diagnosis is very important in the treatment of strabismus. Treatment may vary from person to person. When it is late for the first eye examination, not only aesthetic problems in children's eyes, but also lazy eye problems called Amblyopia, which causes lifelong loss of vision, may occur. .

Reasons for strabismus:

Although there is no single reason for strabismus; A problematic pregnancy period, a problematic birth, the child's development, illnesses or genetic predisposition may lead to strabismus. If there is a misalignment in the eye in the family, there may be a possibility that children may have strabismus, so an eye examination should be performed before it occurs.
The type of strabismus must first be determined and can be treated with glasses according to the determined type, or in cases where misalignment continues with glasses, it should be treated with surgery. If misalignment causes amblyopia, strabismus treatment should be done early.
