Asthma Bronchitis is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the airways and is one of the most common chronic diseases in children and adults.

Asthma is the most common chronic disease among children. Asthma is an important health problem not only in developed countries but also in developing countries. It affects the daily lives of patients diagnosed with asthma and under treatment and their relatives and reduces their quality of life.

“ASTHMA IS A DIFFICULT DISEASE TO DIAGNOSE”

Specialist from the Chest Diseases Department of Medicana Samsun Hospital. Dr. Salih Bilgin gave information about asthma and said, “Complaints caused by asthma are due to widespread and variable airway narrowing, which can be partially or completely reversible. Chronic inflammation also causes the airways to increase sensitivity to external stimuli. As a result, asthma symptoms occur. Complaints that occur as a result of increased sensitivity of the airways and chronic airway inflammation include shortness of breath, wheezing, feeling of tightness and pressure in the chest, and cough. An asthmatic patient may present with only a cough complaint or with all of the above complaints. Asthma-related complaints are generally recurrent and occur mostly at night or in the morning. It eases or disappears spontaneously or with medication. Asthma-related complaints may occur due to some factors (exercise, flu infections, medications, changes in the person's mood, external irritants, dusty environment, etc.).

Asthma complaints usually occur in spring and autumn. For these reasons, asthma is a difficult disease to diagnose. "Generally, the patients who will be diagnosed with full-fledged asthma are patients in the advanced stage." He used his statements.

Diagnosis and Treatment Process

Exp. Dr. Regarding the diagnosis of the disease, Salih Bilgin said, “What is important in diagnosis is the story. Symptoms are seizure-like, seizures are Complaints during pregnancy, a family history of asthma, persistent cough complaints, and increased complaints especially during seasonal changes cause us to suspect the diagnosis. The most important technique in diagnosis is the respiratory function test. Respiratory function test is a test that roughly shows lung functions and gives information about the level of obstruction in the airways if there is any obstruction. Respiratory function test is both an indispensable test for diagnosis and the test we use to follow up the disease. When it comes to treatment, it is an indispensable rule of treatment that the patient and his/her relatives know the information about the disease at least as much as the supporting health personnel. It is vital for the patient's relatives to know how the disease is activated, which medication to increase and which medication to reduce at which stages, in which cases they should consult a doctor, and many other things. The second important issue in treatment is environmental control. In other words, causes that cause asthma attacks or increase symptoms should be avoided as much as possible. ” he said.
