The reason for this is that as the childbearing age shifts from the 20s to the 30s, the problem of infertility and its treatment are increasing. Multiple pregnancies are increasing due to treatment.
How Does Multiple Pregnancy Happen?
The number of twin pregnancies has increased in recent years. The most important reason for this is having children in your 30s. Another reason is medications and infertility treatment. There are two basic types of multiple pregnancies: Identical (monozygotic)and fraternal (dizygotic).
Identical Twin
Monozygotic identical twins come from a single fertilized egg and are genetically identical, copies of each other and the same sex. Identical twins are independent of age, race and genetics and are a coincidental event, occurring in 3 or 4 cases per thousand live births. Twins are formed when different eggs are fertilized by different sperm. It may be the same or different breed. They are not genetically identical. The most common twins are fraternal twins. It mostly happens during infertility treatment. Twin pregnancies are more common in women who become pregnant at an older age, are overweight, have recently stopped taking birth control pills, and have many children.
