Arthroscopic Solution to Muscle Tears

Prof. stated that open surgery is performed in cases where drug treatment is insufficient for shoulder and muscle tears. Dr. Taner Güneş stated that thanks to developing medicine, open surgery has now been replaced by arthroscopy.
Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Prof. Dr. Güneş stated that the causes of shoulder muscle tears are age, overuse, other reasons that prevent the movement of the muscle or compress the muscle such as bone growth. Pointing out that the tear usually occurs on the shoulder on the side of the used hand, Güneş said, "If the person actively uses his right hand, there is a higher probability of a tear on the right shoulder. In addition, if a tear occurs on one shoulder, there will almost certainly be a tear on the other shoulder, especially in people over the age of 60." "A shoulder tear can cause many symptoms in people, from simple pain to the inability to move the shoulder. If surgical intervention is required for shoulder muscle tears, the arthroscopy method is preferred due to its low post-operative pain and short rehabilitation and recovery period."

INCREASES WITH AGE
Prof. Dr. Güneş noted the following about the arthroscopy method:
"The incidence of shoulder tears increases with age. This is because the shoulder joint is constantly working throughout our lives and is involved in all functions of the shoulder. The muscle group is frequently damaged, especially after a certain age. Shoulder tears are caused by the deterioration of the muscle structure over the years and overuse. There are various treatment methods for shoulder tears. These methods are exercise and medications for simple tears, and open surgery, mini-open surgery and arthroscopy methods for cases requiring surgical intervention. Pointing out that surgery is required, Güneş said, “Especially if the tear occurs due to injury and is large, early surgery is important for the success of the treatment. For arthroscopy, an incision smaller than a centimeter is sufficient. Since there is no major damage to the shoulder girdle muscle, the recovery period is short and the patient can return to his/her routine life in a shorter time. can return to. "The most important advantage of the method is that other problems detected in the same session can be resolved in the same session, thanks to successful surgeons." Stating that factors such as disease), the patient's inability to adapt to physical therapy after surgery negatively affect the success of the surgery, Güneş continued his statement as follows: Postoperative limitation of movement, surgical bleeding and hospital stay provide advantages to the patient. The risk of surgery-related problems in arthroscopy is approximately 10 percent. These problems are nerve injury, infection, limitation of movement and re-tear in the cuff. The rehabilitation to be applied is very important for the success of the surgery. The patient's compliance with rehabilitation further increases the success of the surgery. After the surgery, the patient may need to use a shoulder-arm sling. The movements of the shoulder are expected to return to normal by 12 weeks. The shoulder can fully function within 3-6 months after the surgery.”
