Gum Regulations

The first step in achieving an eye-pleasing, harmonious and clean smile is to ensure harmony between teeth and gums. The amount of gum visible when we smile also affects the size of our teeth. Asymmetric gum edges give the impression that our teeth are irregular and our smile is crooked. If our gums have receded, our teeth will appear longer than they actually are. Gums that are swollen and red due to inflammation (a type of gingival edema) cause attention to be directed to the gums. The edematous and thickened gingival margin causes shadow formation at the bottom 1/3 of the teeth. Due to these shadows, tooth colors are 1-2 tones darker than they are. They appear. In addition, bacterial plaque accumulation is easier at the thickened gingival margin due to the edema that has occurred. Bacterial accumulation will cause the triangular gingival section (hereinafter referred to as papilla) between the two teeth to recede and the formation of dark, sometimes black sections between the two teeth.

A second point regarding gingival aesthetics is; It is the collapse of the jawbone and the resulting asymmetrical gum appearance due to tooth extraction. This situation is usually disturbing in the front teeth area. No matter how extraordinarily beautiful porcelain teeth are made, the area where the prepared porcelains will be placed is the gum tissue all around. If there is not enough and healthy gum tissue, it is not possible to talk about aesthetics in the prepared porcelain. If there is loss of papilla due to gingival recession or missing teeth, it must first be replaced. It is possible to regain the lost tissues with some surgical and prosthetic methods. Procedures aimed at arranging the gingival tissue surrounding our teeth and creating an appearance in harmony with our teeth are called cosmetic gingival adjustments.

It is possible to correct the gums that we are not satisfied with their appearance with the following types of operations.

Gum manicure-gingivoplasty: In cases where the gums appear excessively when smiling, called a gummy smile, a small 1-hour operation is performed. It may be possible to pull the gums to the laughing line level with the operation.

Gum graft: It is possible to level the lengths of teeth that appear to be elongated by adding tissue to areas where gum recession is excessive. It may happen.
